Project Name: Melbourne Metro Rail Project
Location: Melbourne, Victoria Year Completed: 2025 Melbourne’s new $12bn Metro Tunnel is the largest upgrade to the cities rail network since the opening of the City Loop back in 1981. Envisioned to give Melbourne a “turn- up-and-go” rail system, the Metro Tunnel connects the fast-growing regions of Sunbury in the North-west and Cranbourne/Pakenham in the South-east, creating a new high-frequency cross city line. The project will enable the operational separation of various existing lines on Melbourne's rail network and increase the capacity of the system to allow metro-style frequencies.
